In the mid-1930s Herman Uihlein, Henry Uihlein, Sr.'s father, began a tradition in refrigeration by designing and manufacturing the first farm and home chest freezer in the United States while serving as President of the family owned Quick Frez Refrigeration Company.

In late 1945, Henry Uihlein, Sr. was elected President of Ben-Hur Freezer Company, a sister company of Quick Frez. In 1962, Henry founded U-Line Corporation as an outgrowth of Ben-Hur and went to work manufacturing and marketing the first stand-alone residential automatic icemaker.

His foresight and determination to develop new ideas and to succeed when there were no clear guidelines or solutions are evident today. The third and fourth generations of this family owned and operated business provide the continuity and vision from which new innovations in the built-in undercounter icemaking and refrigeration market are born.
