- You should not self clean an oven right before a holiday! If an oven is going to fail, it will often be during a self clean. Self cleaning your oven is the equivalent of taking your car and putting it in the Daytona 500 right before going on a cross country vacation. If you need to self clean your product, wait until after the holidays.
- To ensure proper operation of refrigerators, the condenser must be vacuumed and cleaned twice a year and gaskets should be cleaned and inspected for tears and gaps once a year.
- Electrical storms can cause your appliances to act funny. If this happens shut off the appliance`s circuit breaker for ten minutes. This will reset the appliance`s internal computer and may fix your problem.
- If your dryer is taking too long to dry it could be a clog in your vent. Venting should be checked and cleaned yearly to ensure maximum efficiency and prevent possible fires.
- Although extension cords should never be used on major appliances, if you must use one make sure to check that the extension cord is rated for the proper wattage and amperage for the appliance. Failure to do so can cause a safety hazard.
- The national average for household water temperature is 85° Fahrenheit. New England`s average for household water temperature is about 50° Fahrenheit. What does this mean? The cold water setting on your washing machine is designed to work with the national average for household water temperature, but since New England`s water is so cold using the cold water feature causes the laundry detergent to not properly dissolve and may lead to your clothes not being cleaned as well as they could be. So remember, always use the warm or hot settings on your washing machine.
- It's a good idea to run your hot water for a couple minutes before turning on your dishwasher. This guarantees the water temperature will be hot enough to dissolve the dish soap and get all your dishes sparkling clean.
