Our History
In 1939 Harry L. Page Jr. purchased Butler's Hardware on the south side of the Guilford Green. Harry and Mr. Butler were well acquainted as Harry ran, "Page's Express," and made deliveries to the Butler's on a regular basis. On that fateful day in 1939, Mr. Butler bemoaned the hardware business and Harry suggested he sell the hardware store, the rest is history.
Over the last 80 years, five generations of the Page family and innumerable great members of our staff have continued Page's tradition of offering quality products and outstanding customer service. Page Hardware & Appliance Co. is still in the original building we started with in 1939. Over the years Page's has expanded into the former Guilford Trust building on our west side and the Collins' restaurant building on the east side.
Today we are proud members of the Ace Hardware cooperative and also the New England Appliance Group. These two partnerships allow Page's to successfully compete with a wide variety of retailers without losing our smalltown touch. We look forward to continuing to serve the Shoreline for many years to come.
Collins Restaurant
Built in 1857, this building has housed the post office, a general store, and then an ice cream parlor. In the early 1900s, it became a meat market and then a restaurant until it was purchased by Page Hardware in 1984.
Page Hardware Building
In 1896 Mr. E.H. Butler purchased the building and moved his hardware business into the store. Mr. Butler ran the hardware store until 1939 when Mr. Harry L. Page Jr. purchased the building and business. Since then, the store has been owned and operated by the Page family.
Guilford Trust Building
Built in 1912, the Guilford Trust Co. and the Guilford Savings Bank shared the same building until 1951. In 1963 the Guilford Trust Co. merged with the Second New Haven Bank and enlarged the building to its present size. In 1973 Page Hardware purchased the building from the Second New Haven Bank.
